Industry Case Studies
SCOPE: $250 million in total spend with an average of 2,000 contractor requirements a year across the United States. Nearly 60% of this headcount is located in one city. Most common skill set requirements are high level Technical Architects and Project Managers.
SCOPE: $600 million in total spend and over 2,000 requirements throughout the United States. Unlike many traditional Apex Clients, this Client would not allow manager contact to “understand the need” of each requirement. Finally, the bill rate structure was very low. Apex Systems knew this would require us to change our business model to meet the higher demand and reduced “fill ratio”.
SCOPE: Over 7,000 contractor employee’s nationwide spanning IT Business Applications, IT Support, Telecommunications, Finance & Accounting, and Engineering skill sets. Additionally, there were over 180 vendors so the challenge for Apex Systems as at new supplier to this Client was to perform at a higher rate than the fierce competition.
SCOPE: Our Client is a large Federally Funded Research and Development Center. They hire contract employees for the various programs they support as contract labor provides them with the flexibility they need to immediately react to changes in funding and the needs of their sponsors. Additionally, they have over 400 contract employees in a constantly changing environment.
SCOPE: As a global company with locations all across the United States, our customer relies heavily on the use of consultants with skill sets such as:
- Full Lifecycle Application Architecture and Development
- Program Management, Project Management and Business Analysis
- Software Quality/Validation and Testing
- Database Development, Analysis and Architecture
- ERP and CRM Systems
- Data Warehousing—ETL Developers, Data Modelers, Data Architects
- Business Intelligence
- Technical Support, Infrastructure Administration and Engineers
- Engineering- Validation, Process, Quality, Electrical, Mechanical, Test and Software
In addition, because they are a large healthcare/pharmaceutical company, they adhere to strict FDA regulations. As a result of these regulations, it is imperative for Apex Systems to find candidates with detailed industry knowledge who can immediately produce results.
SCOPE: At the end of 2005, this Client experienced trouble staffing one of their key programs for a large civil agency. This program had been in place with one of our client’s largest clients for 18 years and could potentially generate another $500 million in revenue during the remaining life of the contract. Our Client was having trouble identifying, implementing, supporting, and retaining highly qualified contract personnel with its existing business model of outsourcing these needs among 15.
SCOPE: $150 million in total spend with 4,100 contract employees. 75% of this headcount is located in one city. This Client also has three different affiliates and each have their own requirements across numerous disciplines including:
- IT Business Applications

- Legal
- IT Support
- Audit

SCOPE: This Client decided to create a centralized IT department called Shared Services’. Shared Services’ main goal is to create consistency across the enterprise by offering a suite of centrally hosted applications and systems to more than 60 divisions within the company.
When Apex Systems first began working for this Client in 2004, there were over 18 vendors competing for this influx in both staff augmentation and permanent placement business due to this new centralized concept.
